No Dial Tone

If the phone is cordless:

  1. Verify the electrical outlet the phone is plugged into is receiving power (Test the outlet with a lamp, fan, etc…)
  2. Verify the telephone cord is plugged into a working phone jack
  3. Try resetting the phone by unplugging it from electrical power, removing and reseating the batteries, then plugging the phone back in
  4. If the phone is handset (Does not plug into a telephone jack directly) verify the base unit is operational.
  5. Try to sync the handset to the base unit
  6. Verify the phone is working by testing the telephone jack using a different phone

If the phone isn't cordless:

  1. Verify the telephone cord is plugged into a working phone jack
  2. Test the telephone jack by using a different phone. If a different phone works in the telephone jack the original phone may be faulty

  1. Verify the level of service you are trying to access is active
    1. Log in to your My Account
    2. Click the My Bill & Services tab to view Current Services and your Most Recent Statement
  2. Verify that all telephones are on the hook/in their cradle and properly hung up
  3. If you have only 1 phone in your house verify the telephone cord is plugged into the phone and a phone jack
  4. Reset any cordless phones by unplugging them from the electrical outlet then plugging them back in
  5. Disconnect all phones, one at a time, from the telephone jacks. Afterwards, reconnect all phones and check for dial tone

  1. If your Telephone Modem (MTA) has a StandBy button, verify the MTA is not in Standby mode

Note: The MTA pictured below is just an example. Not all MTA's will have a Standby button.

  1. Verify the power cord is secure in the back of the MTA and plugged in to an electrical outlet that is receiving power
  2. Verify there is a telephone cord plugged into the port labeled Tel ½ on the back of the MTA (Closest to the end)
  3. Verify the coax cable is securely fastened in the back of the MTA
  4. Try resetting your MTA: Using a pen, or other pointed, non-metallic object, depress the reset button until you see the lights go off on the front of the unit. (Alternately, you can unplug the MTA from electrical power. Once the lights go dark, wait 15 seconds then plug it back in)

Note: After resetting your MTA it can take 5 minutes or longer for dial tone to be restored. If your MTA also provides internet access you will not be able to connect to the internet while the MTA is resetting.
