Prior to installing the Security Suite®, be sure your computer meets the system requirements.

Uninstall Existing Anti-Virus Software

Step 2 of 7

To avoid a delay installing Security Suite, it is important to remove any existing anti-virus software installed on your computer before downloading the installer. Security Suite includes a feature that will attempt to automatically uninstall antivirus products found to conflict during the installation process, if it is unable to remove the conflicting software, you will be prompted to manually remove it through your operating system's control.

If you know the name of the security product, you can try the standard software removal steps below.

If the product cannot be uninstalled, contact the vendor of the software for support and a removal tool.

To uninstall existing anti-virus software from Windows XP:

  1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
  2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Select your program and click Change/Remove.
  4. When asked, restart your computer.

To uninstall existing anti-virus software from Windows Vista:

  1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
  2. Click Uninstall a program.
  3. Select your program and click Uninstall/Change.
  4. When asked, restart your computer.

To uninstall existing anti-virus software from Windows 8:

  1. From Desktop Mode, click the Settings charm and Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs and Features.
  3. Select your program and click Uninstall/Change.
  4. When asked, restart your computer.

To uninstall existing anti-virus software from Windows 7:

  1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs and Features.
  3. Select your program and click Uninstall/Change.
  4. When asked, restart your computer.

Download Security Suite

Step 3 of 7

  1. Login to the My Account Page at charter.com/myaccount and select the "Online Tools" tab.

  1. Click on the "Charter Security Suite®" tab.

Activate CSS

  1. To install Security Suite, you will be prompted to update your current Charter Email address and password or My Account login and password to a Charter ID. A Charter ID is a single username that lets you enjoy all the sites and apps that Charter offers.

To update your existing Charter Email address or My Account login:

    1. Sign in to Charter.net on a computer or tablet using your existing Charter Email address and password or My Account login and password. Select Sign In.
    2. Once you sign in to Charter.net with your existing credential, you will be asked to update to a Charter ID. Select Yes to update to a Charter ID and gain access to Charter.net.
    3. After clicking Next, you are directed to the Charter ID Update page. Populate the required fields, accept the Terms & Conditions and select Next to continue. The Charter ID field prepopulates, incorporating your current credentials when possible.
    4. After clicking Next, you are directed to the Charter ID Update success page, confirming that your existing credentials are successfully updated to a Charter ID. When you click Done, you are directed to the Manage Your Account page to sign in using your new Charter ID.
  1. Go to Charter.net/Security-Suite   , sign in to Charter.net and click the Install button.
  2. Select your operating system and give your device a nickname in the prompt. Then, click the Install button to continue.

    Note: Device nicknames need to be unique, have less than 16 characters and consist of letters, numbers, dashes and/or underscores.

  3. The system will display the CharterNetworkInstaller.exe pop-up window.
  4. Select Run. The system will begin downloading Charter Security Suite, as well as display its progress and estimated time remaining to finish the download.

NOTE: Depending on what version of Windows is on the computer, the pop up window may display differently.

Initial Scan

  1. If necessary, Security Suite will automatically download and run the AntiBot Scanner prior to installation. A restart may be required if any harmful files are found. Read more on the AntiBot Scanner.

Installer Welcome Screen

  1. Proceed with the installation by clicking Accept and install.

Installation

  1. The installing Charter Security Suite window will display the progress of the installation. The installation process may take up to a few minutes to complete. Select Restart to complete the installation process.

Finish

  1. When the Charter Security Suite has completed its installation, click Close to exit the installation process. You have successfully installed the Charter Security Suite.
  2. To install Security Suite on any additional computers, repeat steps 1 through 7. You can install Security Suite on up to 10 computers at no additional charge.
