Tiling or Squares on TV Screen

Tiling Screen

If you see tiling or squares on your TV for a second or two when changing channels this is the digital video signal updating itself and is a normal occurrence. If you are seeing tiling happen at other times, please follow these troubleshooting steps.

Start Over

One TV

  1. Tune the TV to channel 3 or 4 (Depending on your area)
  2. Verify your TV is on the correct input (Video 1, Video 2, HDMI, etc…) by pressing the Input, Source, or TV/Video button on the TV remote
  3. Try changing the channel then back to tiling channel
  4. Check behind ALL TV and equipment (Cable box, TV, VCR, DVD, stereo receivers, etc) and the coax cable at the wall outlet for any loose or damaged connectors
  5. Make sure any/all equipment is connected correctly and the digital receiver is the first equipment connected to the coax outlet. Click here for information on connecting various television equipment
  6. If your TV was recently moved from another cable outlet in your house return the TV to its original location
  7. Reset (power-cycle) any/all receivers:
  • Motorola and Cisco/Scientific Atlanta receivers:
    • Reset (power-cycle) all main/secondary receiver(s) by unplugging them for 15 seconds then plugging them back in. Wait until the clock displays, then turn on the power to the receiver(s).
  • Moxi receivers
    • Press and hold the Reset/Power button located on the front of the MOXI box

If you experience digital tiling at the same time each day for 15 minutes or less you may be affected by a Sun Outage.

Sun Outages occur every February/March and September/October of each year, and results in the degradation or loss of satellite signal for short periods of time each day for about 2 weeks.

Interruptions can last from just a few minutes to up to 15 minutes a day and can range from mild to severe.

  • Sun outages affect all providers
  • If any group of channels is affected for much more than 15 minutes or if all channels are affected at one time, the technical department should be notified. There may be a problem that is unrelated to sun outages and you may need to contact us to schedule a service call
