Locate Control Panel
Locate the Windows Icon in the bottom left corner of the task bar.

Select Control Panel from the menu on the right.

Control Panel

Windows 7 will allow you to view the Control Panel in various formats.
When selecting “View By”, you can view by Category, Small Icons, or Large Icons.
Locate the Network icon to proceed.
Network and Sharing Center
Within the Network and Sharing Center, locate and select the Connection type.
In the example below, “Wireless Network Connect 8” will be selected to proceed
Connection Status
The Connection status will display. This screen provides details for the connection, including Wireless network name, Connectivity Status, and the duration of the connection.

Selecting the Diagnose button will allow the connection to reconnect or repair the IP address.
Selecting the Details button will display more details about the connection such as IP Address, Default Gateway, and DNS Servers.

Network Connection Properties
The Network Connection Properties will display.
Settings found here would be unique to the connection type, however all available choices exist on both wired or wireless connection types.
Within the Network Connection Properties, locate Internet Protocol Version 4.
Once found, click Properties.

IPv4 Properties

From the Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties window, the user can locate the IP and DNS settings.
Under normal conditions, the IP and DNS should both be configured to Obtain Automatically.
To specify an IP or DNS address, click the Use the Following button, input the full address, and click OK to save the information.
