Apple IPAD Email Settings

The following process will help you setup your Charter mail account on your Apple iPad.

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the only supported method for connecting to Charters Email servers from your Apple iPad.

Setting up

Before you can use your Email account on iPad - you need to add your account to Mail.

  1.  Tap Settings on your home screen settings
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars mail, contacts, calendars
  3. Tap Add Account... add account
  4. Tap Other

Other

  1. Tap Add Mail Account add mail account
  2. Enter your account information and tap Save.
    • Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in Email communication
    • Address: Type in your Email address (Example: username@charter.net)
    • Password: Your charter.net Email password
    • Description: The name you would like to identify your account with (This name will not be seen by others)

Account information

Mail configures most Email accounts automatically. Otherwise, you will be prompted for any additional settings.  Note: iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G will normally automatically search for this information, other models may not and information will need to be manually entered

  • SSL: This setting should be on for both SMTP and IMAP
  • SMTP: mobile.charter.net:587
  • IMAP: mobile.charter.net:993
  1. Once your account information is saved - you can start sending and receiving Email. Repeat these steps for each Email account you would like to add to your iPad.

Send/receive emai

If you experience any difficulty in sending and receiving Email try these steps:

Check connection

Check your connection by using Safari safari to open a web page. If you are connecting with Wi-Fi, note that many public Wi-Fi networks require users to sign in to use the service.

To turn off Wi-Fi

  1. Tap Settings settings
  2. Tap Wi-Fi wi-fi
  3. Tap to turn Wi-Fi off turn off wi-fi

Resolve multiple device lock-out

Increase the interval to fetch mail on your computer and iPad.

To change this setting on your iPad:

  1.  Tap Settings settings
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars mail, contacts, calendars
  3. Tap Fetch New Data fetch new data.

Check SMTP settings

  1.  Tap Settings settings
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars mail, contacts, calendars
    • Under Accounts, tap the account from which you're trying to send mail.

  1. Under Outgoing Mail Server, tap SMTP

  1. Tap the SMTP server for your email account and verify the settings are correct.
    • Host Name: mobile.charter.net
    • Server Port: 587

Set up account directly on iPad

Mail settings may vary between computers and mobile devices. If you've synced your Email account using iTunes, setting it up directly on your iPad will help ensure you have the correct settings in place.

  1.  Tap Settings on your home screen settings
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars mail, contacts, calendars
  3. Tap your email provider

Other

If you already have an account on your iPad, tap Add Account add account, then tap your Email provider.

When you enter your Email address, iPad will look up your service provider's settings for you.

Restart iPad

To restart iPad, first turn iPad off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPad will turn off after a few moments.

Next, turn iPad on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
