Finding your WiFi Name and Password

If you have a secured network you will need your WiFi name and password to allow other devices access to your wireless network. If you have forgotten your WiFi name and password:
  • Check on the sticker on the bottom of your router
  • Check your WiFi Installation guide – It may have been recorded by you or your installation technician

If you are unsure of your WiFi network name (SSID) and/or network password you can locate them by following the steps below.

These steps are for Charter issued WiFi Internet equipment. If you own your own router and do not see the brand listed below click here.

If you have a computer ALREADY CONNECTED to your wireless network you can easily find your WiFi password. Click on the operating system you are using on the computer that is already connected wirelessly.

  1. Directly connect an Ethernet cable to the computer from the Motorola Router
  2. Open the web browser on your PC
  3. In the address bar type http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter

  1. You will see a screen that looks like this, prompting you to log in to the router

Default Logins:
Username: admin
Password: motorola

Note: Username and Password are case sensitive

  1. Enter your login information and click Login


Note: If you do not have the login information or if you have changed it from the default settings, you will need to Contact Us

  1. Click on Wireless on the top menu bar
  2. In the menu on the left side, click on Primary Network

Your current wireless password is located in the Network Key 1 field

  1. Directly connect an Ethernet cable to the computer from the Cisco Router
  2. Open the web browser on your PC
  3. In the address bar type http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter

Note: Username and Password are case sensitive

  1. Enter your login information and click Log In

Note: If you do not have this information or if you have changed it from the default settings, you will need to Contact Us

Click on WIRELESS along the top, then click on the Wireless Security tab

Click on Wireless at the top then click on the Basic Settings tab

Your Network Name (SSID) is located in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) field

  1. Directly connect an Ethernet cable to the computer from the SMC Router
  2. Open the web browser on your PC
  3. In the address bar type http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter

Default Logins:
Username: cusadmin
Password: password

Note: Username and Password are case sensitive

  1. Enter your login information and click LOGIN

Note: If you do not have the login information or if you have changed it from the default settings, you will need to Contact Us

Click on Wireless on the left side, then Encryption

WEP Enabled

Your current wireless password is located in the WEP Key 1 field

WPA/WPA2 Enabled

Your current wireless password is located in the Pre-Shared Key field

Network Name (SSID)

Click on Wireless in the menu bar on the left side

Your Network Name (SSID) will be in the Primary SSID field

  1. Directly connect an Ethernet cable to the computer from the Ubee Router
  1. Open the web browser on your PC
  2. In the address bar type http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter

  1. You will see a screen that looks like this, prompting you to log in to the router

Default Logins:
Username: user
Password: user

Note: Username and Password are case sensitive

  1. Enter your login information and click OK

Note: If you do not have the login information or if you have changed it from the default settings, you will need to Contact Us

Click on WIRELESS along the top then click Security 

WEP Enabled

Your current wireless password is located in the Network Key 1 field

WPA/WPA2 Enabled

Your current wireless password is located in the WPA Pre-Shared Key field

Network Name (SSID)

Click on WIRELESS along the top then click Basic

Your Network Name (SSID) will be in the Network Name (SSID) field

Charter WiFi Netgear Router

(Not your Router? Start Over)

Many Netgear routers will have your Network name and password recorded on a sticker on the bottom of the router

  1. Network Name (SSID)
  2. Network Key (WiFi Password)

Netgear

If your Netgear router does not have your network name and password listed on the bottom of the router, follow the steps below to retrieve it.

  1. Directly connect an Ethernet cable to the computer from the Netgear Router
  2. Open the web browser on your PC
  3. Depending on your model, in the address bar type either:
    1. http://192.168.1.1
    2. http://192.168.0.1
    3. http://www.routerlogin.net
    4. http://www.routerlogin.com
  4. Press Enter

  1. You will see a screen that looks like this, prompting you to log in to the router

Your Default Login will either be:

Username: admin
Password: password

or

Username: chtruser
Password: charter

  1. Enter your login information and click OK

Depending on your model:

Click on Wireless under Basic on the left side

or

Click on Wireless Settings under Setup on the left side

Your current wireless password is located in the Passphrase field

Network Name (SSID)

Your Network Name (SSID) will be in the Name (SSID) field

Find your WiFi password using Windows® Vista, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8 operating system

If you have a computer running Windows® Vista, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8 operating system ALREADY CONNECTED to your wireless network, you can find your WiFi password by following the steps below.

  1. Left-click the wireless strength indicator on the taskbar (bottom right corner)

Note: Windows® 8 operating system users may need to click the Desktop tile to view desktop mode

  1. Right-click your wireless network name, and then select Properties

  1. If necessary click on the Security tab

  1. Check the Show Characters checkbox to display your wireless password in the Network Security Key box

Note: You MUST be logged in with the Administrator account (As indicated by the Shield iconShield). If you are not logged in as Administrator, the Shield icon will not be displayed and the show characters checkbox will be grayed out Gray box

Find your WiFi password using OS X® operating system

  1. Launch the Keychain Access app located in the Utilities folder

  1. Click on your wireless network name and click the "i" info button on the bottom of the app

  1. Check the box next to Show Password

  1. Enter the administrator password for your OS X® operating system

  1. Your wireless password will be displayed
