Scanning Options using Charter Security Suite®
This tutorial will guide you through using the Charter SecuritySuite® virus scan
options. Use the menu links below to navigate through the document.

Scan Options
Launch Charter Security Suite®
Double-click the Charter Security Suite® Icon
in the Task Bar. This will launch the application.
Click on the Computer Security Icon, which will launch the application.

Performing a Quick Scan
A Virus and Spyware Scan will scan your computer's vital files and folders for viruses, spyware, and riskware. To perform a quick scan, click the scanning icon on the home screen of the Charter Security Suite.

Performing a Virus and Spyware Scan
Step 1 of 3
Click the scan button and select Virus and spyware scan from the drop down menu.

Step 2of 3
Depending on your computer, a quick scan may take a couple of minutes to complete. If malware is found, the Charter Security Suite® will attempt to clean your computer.
Step 3 of 3
Once completed, you have an option to view a scan summary report.
Click the Show report button to view. Click the Close button to exit.

Performing a Full Computer Scan
Step 1 of 3
A Full Computer Scan will scan all your files and folders for viruses, spyware, riskware, and other suspicious items. To perform a full computer scan, click the the scan button and select Full computer scan from the drop down menu.

Step 2 of 3
Depending on your computer, a full system scan may take some time to complete. If malware is found, the Charter Security Suite® will attempt to clean your computer.

Step 3 of 3
Once completed, you have an option to view a scan summary report.
Click the Show report button to view. Click the Close button to exit.

Choose What to Scan
Step 1 of 4
If you are concerned about a certain area on your computer you can Choose What to Scan and Charter Security Suite® will scan the requested files and/or folders for viruses, spyware, riskware, and other suspicious items. To choose what files and/or folders to scan, click the the scan button and select Choose What to Scan from the drop down menu.
Step 2 of 4
Choose the file that you would like scanned, and then click OK.

Step 3 of 4
Depending on the files you requested to have scanned, the scan may take some time to complete. If malware is found, the Charter Security Suite® will attempt to clean your computer

Step 4 of 4
Once completed, you have an option to view a scan summary report.

Click the Show report button to view. Click the Close button to exit.

Rootkit Scan
Step 1 of 4
If you are concerned about a certain stealthy or malicious software, select Rootkit Scan and Charter Security Suite® will scan full computer for viruses, spyware, riskware, and other suspicious items. To choose what files and/or folders to scan, click the the scan button and select Rootkit Scan from the drop down menu.

Choose Rootkit scan, and then click OK.
Step 3 of 4
Depending on your computer, a full system scan may take some time to complete. If malware is found, the Charter Security Suite® will attempt to clean your computer.
Click the Show report button to view. Click the Close button to exit.

Manual Scanning Options
You can adjust how the Charter Security Suite® handles a virus. It is recommended that you allow the Charter Security Suite® to clean the file. Click OK when finished.

Scheduling a Scan
Step 1 of 4
The Charter Security Suite® can be set to scan your computer on a regular interval. To schedule a scan click on the Settings button.

Step 2 of 4
Click the Other settings header to expand the menu. Then click Scheduled scanning.

Step 3 of 4
Click the empty box next to Turn on scheduled scanning. Select when you want the virus scan to run. Scans can run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Step 4 of 4
Adjust when the scan should start. Select either Start time: or After computer is not used for: options. Use the arrows to adjust the time frame. Click OK when finished.

Database versions will provide you with the date and time of the last update.
