Online Safety / Parental Controls
This tutorial will guide you through using the Charter SecuritySuite®
Parental Controls. Use the menu links below to navigate through the document.

CSS Online Safety/Parental Controls
Double-click the Charter Security Suite® icon
in the Task Bar. This will launch the application.
Click the Settings button.

Click the Internet header on the left to expand the menu and select Parental Control.

Place a checkmark next to Turn on Parental Control. If this is your first time using parental controls, the "Welcome to Parental Control browsing mode wizard" will automatically appear. Click Next.

Select the level of control. The options are Small Children, Teenagers, and Small children and teenagers. Once your selection has been made, click Next to proceed.

The "Set Daily Usage" option allows you to set the number of hours allowed for web browsing in a single day. You can have different limits for both the weekdays and the weekends. Use the slider bar to adjust the time accordingly. Once your selection has been made, click Next to proceed.

The "Set Time of Day Usage" option allows you to set a specific block of time for web surfing. Once your selection has been made, click Next to proceed.

This option allows you to define what type of web content will be filtered and blocked by the Parental Control for the teenager's profile. Once your selection has been made, click Next to proceed.

Create a Parent password that you can easily remember. You will use this password to change the security settings and access the Internet without restrictions. Click Next to proceed.

The password hint feature will help you remember your Parent password should you forget. Click Next to proceed.

Click Finish to exit the Parental Control Profile Wizard.

Once Parental Controls have been activated, Small Children or Teenager tabs will appear within the Security Suite settings. From here, the Parent can manage the individual settings for each.

With Parental Controls enabled, when a Teenager or Small children account is in use, the following box will be presented when a restricted area is reached. Typing in the correct password will allow access for that profile.

Browsing Protection provides added security while browsing the internet.

Double-click the Charter Security Suite® Icon
on the Desktop, which will launch the Charter Security Suite Controls.
Click on the Online Safety Icon, which will launch the application.

Click the Users icon to access the individual user accounts.

This screen gives you the option of choosing which account you would like to affect with any changes you make in the Safety Features.

A checkmark next to Online Safety Features verifies that the account is active for the Online Safety. To turn off any of the settings simply slide the switch to the off position as seen below.

Online Safety features Wizards
You can set individual Online Safety feature limits for each account that you have created. Click the Settings link next to the line item that you would like to change and follow the steps provided.

Browsing Protection

Web Page Filtering
You can select Web sites to block and/or Show ratings. Click OK and it will launch a wizard to assist you.
Select the section that you would like to edit, click Next.

To restrict Web content, click the box next to the corresponding content you would like to block, click Next. The wizard will verify your choices and then click Finish.

To restrict Web sites, click the box next to Allow only selected web sites, and follow the wizard.

Click Add on the appropriate tab to add Allowed or Denied sites. Click Remove on the appropriate tab to remove Allowed or Denied sites.

Time Limits
The "Time Limits" option allows you to set the number of hours allowed for web browsing in a single day. You can have different limits for both the weekdays and the weekends. Use the slider bar to adjust the time accordingly. Once your selection has been made, click Next to proceed.
First you select Allowed Browsing hours. Click Next.

You may limit the browsing time by user. Once the browsing time limit has been reached, the user can no longer browse the internet.

Tasks
From the Charter Security Suite Online Security main status page, click Tasks.

Tasks can assist you with common issues.
- Restrict web content – Edit what web sites or type of web sites can be accessed by individual user.
- Restrict browsing times – Edit when or for how long the Internet can be browsed.
- Web site restrictions – View which web sites are allowed or denied by web page filter.
- Create a new account – Create a new Windows user account.
- Edit user account – Edit Windows user accounts.
- Check for updates – Make sure that you have the latest software updates

Edit User Account
To edit an individual account, click Edit user account and select the individual account you would like to edit.

Select the item you would like to edit and follow the prompts.

Change the account name allows you to personalize the account. This name will appear on the Welcome screen and on the Start screen when the user is selected.

Change the password allows you to change the Windows password for the user.

Set Up Family Safety allows you to get reports of your kids' PC activities, choose what they see online and set time limits, app restrictions and more.

Change the Account Type allows you to make other users Administrators and/or remove Administrator rights from users.

Delete the Account allows you to delete individual accounts. Windows can automatically save the contents of desktop, Documents, Favorites, Music, Pictures and Videos folders to a new folder with the user name on the Administrators desktop.

Manage Another Account allows you to switch to another user to edit their settings.

Statistics
From the Charter Security Suite Online Security main status page, click Statistics.

The Statistics page will display Visited web sites by user for a specified timeframe. It will display site numbers of Visited web sites, Web sites blocked by browsing protection, and Web sites blocked by web page filter.
