Mac OS 10.6 - Specify an IP Address

Click on the Apple Menu and select System Preferences.

While in the System Preferences, locate and double click the Network icon under the Internet and Network section.

On the Network screen, select the method of connection. Ethernet or Airport.

Locate the Configure IPv4 field and select Manually from the available options.

Enter the IP address and then enter the subnet mask.  Once those are entered correctly, click on Apply to save changes.
