TiVo Premiere from Charter - Record it once, watch it anywhere

Effective September 6, Charter will no longer sell TiVo Premiere from Charter service to customers. We are currently evaluating the integration of TiVo software and other software into our next-generation video delivery platform. Customers that own Retail TiVo equipment are not impacted with this change.  Click here for information about Charter TV packages.

Transfer shows from one TiVo Premiere to another

When you have more than one TiVo Premiere connected to your home network, you can easily transfer shows between them.

Transferring shows between TiVo Premieres

You recorded a show on your living room TiVo Premiere but you want to watch it on the TiVo Premiere in your bedroom. No problem! Here's how.

  1. Go to the TiVo Premiere that you want to transfer shows to. For this example, let's call it the Bedroom box.
  2. At the bottom of the Bedroom box's "My Shows" list highlight the TiVo Premiere you want to transfer shows from. Let's call this the Living Room box. Remember, TiVo Premieres in your home network are marked on the "My Shows" list by the TiVo Premiere icon. TiVo Box icon

    • Note: If you watch the show as it is transferring, you might experience intermittent delays in the transfer, depending on your network speed.

  1. Once the show is transferred from the Living Room box to the Bedroom box, the show exists in both locations. If you delete the show from one box, you can still find it on the other.

Transferring from a paused location

Let's say you've watched the first half of a movie in one room, and want to finish it in another. You can transfer the entire movie, or transfer only the part you haven't watched.

  1. From the receiving TiVo Premiere's "My Shows" list, select the sending TiVo Premiere.
  2. Press SELECT on the show you want to transfer, then select "Transfer from paused point."
    • Note: The show cannot be playing on the sending box when you start the transfer.

Transfer shows to your iPod, PSP, or other portable device

Transfer TiVo shows to your portable device

When your TiVo Premiere is connected to your home network and you have installed TiVo Desktop Software on your PC or Roxio Toast Titanium software on your Mac, you can easily convert your shows for use on your iPod, iPhone, PSP, or other portable device.

Transferring TiVo recordings (PC)

If you are using an iPod, iPhone, PSP, or other portable device that does not sync with Windows Media Player, recordings transferred to TiVo Desktop's "Now Playing List" need to be converted to a format that your portable device can read. You can convert individual recordings, or you can set this to happen automatically to all recordings in the "Now Playing List."

If you are using a portable device that does sync with Windows Media Player, TiVo Desktop can add recorded shows to your Windows Media Library automatically.

  1. Before you begin, make sure that you have TiVo Desktop or TiVo Desktop Plus installed on your PC and that you have transferred at least one recording from your TiVo Premiere to TiVo Desktop. TiVo Desktop Software will allow you to automatically prepare each transferred TiVo recording for use with a portable video player, either by adding the recording to your media library or converting it to your player's preferred video format.
  2. Launch TiVo Desktop or TiVo Desktop Plus.

launch TiVo desktop

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Convert a single recording:
      1. Highlight a recording in TiVo Desktop's "Now Playing List."
      2. Right-mouse click the recording and select "Convert For…," then select your device.
        right-click
    • Convert all recordings automatically:
      1. Choose 'File' > 'Preferences.'
      2. Select the "Portable Devices" tab.
        Portable devices tab
      3. Select "Convert for Use with My:" and use the drop-down menu to select your portable device.
      4. If you want TiVo Desktop to delete the original recording from the "My TiVo Recordings" folder after the conversion for your portable device is complete, check the box "Delete the original transferred files after conversion." This avoids storing multiple copies of the same recording on your computer
      5. Click "OK."
    • Add recorded shows to your Windows Media Library automatically:
      1. Choose 'File' > 'Preferences.'
      2. Select the "Portable Devices" tab.
      3. Select "Add to my Windows Media Library."
      4. Click "OK."
Note: These settings apply only to new shows transferred to the "Now Playing List;" items currently in the "Now Playing List" will need to be converted manually (as described above).
  2. Locate your recordings. Recordings converted for iPod or iPhone appear in your iTunes folder. Recordings converted for other portable devices appear in the "My TiVo Recordings for Portables" folder.
  3. Refer to the documentation that accompanies your portable device for instructions on transferring the recorded videos to your device.
