Reminders

The Reminders feature of the Motorola/Arris digital receiver guide allows you to set reminders for your favorite shows.

To access the Reminders options:

  1. Highlight the program you want to set a reminder for in the guide and press the Info button on your Charter remote
  2. On the program information screen, select the Reminder icon at the bottom of the screen

Reminder

  1. The Reminder Options screen will appear with the following options:
    • Repeat Reminder: Sets the frequency of the reminder based on Once, Once a Day, Once a Week, Mon-Fri, or Sat-Sun
    • Start Time: When to start showing the reminder. Can be set up to 15 minutes before the program starts
    • End Time: When to end the reminder. Can be set up to 2 hours after the program ends

Reminder Options

  1. To set the reminder, select the Remind icon icon

To cancel an existing reminder or cancel setting a reminder, select the cancel icon icon.

Messages

We may occasionally send you messages to announce new services, special promotions or other valuable information. If you have a message, an envelope icon will appear in the upper-left hand corner of the screen and a red light will appear on your digital receiver.

Note: Service not available in all areas.

Turn Messaging On/Off 

  1. Press Menu on the remote control
  2. The House House Icon icon will be highlighted
  3. Press OK on the remote control
  4. Navigate to Setup and press OK
  5. Navigate to Guide Setup and press OK
  6. Use the down arrow to navigate to the Message Indicator
  7. Use the left and right arrow keys to change the setting to On or Off

To Retrieve a Message

  1. Press Menu on the remote control
  2. The House House Icon icon will be highlighted
  3. Press OK on the remote control
  4. Navigate to Messages and press OK
  5. Navigate to the desired message and press OK to read the message
  6. Press Exit to return to programming

Set Display Clock

The following steps can be used to reset the clock display on the Motorola/Arris digital receiver.

  1. Press Menu on the remote control
  2. The House House Icon icon will be highlighted
  3. Press OK on the remote Control
  4. Navigate to Setup and press OK
  5. Navigate to Cable Box Setup, press OK
  6. The front LED will display "Current Chnl"
  7. Press the right arrow button until "Current Time" is displayed on the tab
  8. Press Exit

Change the default audio language

Audio Language can be changed using the following steps

  1. Press Menu on the remote control
  2. The House House Icon icon will be highlighted
  3. Press OK on the remote control
  4. Navigate to Setup and press OK
  5. Navigate to Audio Setup and press OK
  6. Using the arrow keys, adjust the Default Audio tab to the desired option
  7. Press Exit

Enable the Auto-Tune feature

Auto-Tune eliminates the need to use 3 digits to change the channel. The following steps will enable auto tune functionality.

  1. Press Menu on the remote control
  2. The House House Icon icon will be highlighted
  3. Press OK on the remote control
  4. Navigate to Setup and press OK
  5. Navigate to Guide Setup and press OK
  6. Navigate to Channel Entry Behavior
  7. "No Auto-Tune" will display, using the arrow keys, select "Auto-Tune"
  8. Press Exit

Disable Screen Saver

The following steps can be used to disable "Screen Saver" on the digital receiver

  1. Press Menu on the remote control
  2. The House House Icon icon will be highlighted
  3. Press OK on the remote control
  4. Navigate to Setup and press OK
  5. Navigate to Guide Color Setup and press OK
  6. Navigate to Screen Saver Setup and press OK
  7. Use the arrow keys to modify the setting
  8. Press Exit

SAP and DVS

Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) is an auxiliary audio channel for analog television that can be broadcast or transmitted both over the air and by cable TV. It is often used for an alternate language or for the Descriptive Video Service (DVS) offered in the United States by PBS, along with broadcasting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio service or a local National Public Radio station at times where translation or DVS is not needed.

Descriptive Video Service (DVS) is a service where a narrator describes the action of a scene during natural pauses in the dialogue, designed to make the programming more accessible to customers who are blind or visually impaired. For example, the audience can hear, "A police officer enters the room", "A car accident occurs", "It begins to rain", or "A man buries his face in his hands".

Note: Only one secondary audio will be available at a time. For example, you will not be able hear both Spanish language and DVS. DVS is only available on select channels and during select programming. For DVS-supported programming schedules, please visit the website for the programmer (channel) you are interested in.

Enable/Disable SAP/DVS

SAP

  1. Press Menu on the remote control
  2. The House House Icon icon will be highlighted
  3. Press OK on the remote control
  4. Navigate to Setup and press OK
  5. Navigate to Audio Setup and press OK
  6. Using the arrow keys, adjust the Default Audio Track tab to the desired option:
    • Channel Default
    • English
    • Espanol
    • Francis
    • Portugues
  7. Press OK to save the new preference. The new audio will be available after the channel has been changed.
  8. NOTE: If the desired channel does not carry Secondary Audio, the user will hear the Primary Audio.
  9. Press Exit

DVS

The following steps can be used to enable or disable Descriptive Video Service (DVS) on a Motorola/Arris digital receiver.

  1. Press Menu on the remote control twice.
  2. Select Set Up.
  3. Select Audio Set Up.

Adjust the Aspect Ratio

To change the aspect ratio on a Motorola/Arris digital receiver, you will need to access the User Settings sub menu (The User Setting sub menu is not part of the Main or Quick menu). There are two options for accessing this menu:

Option 1

  • Power ON your television
  • Power OFF the HD/DVR digital receiver and immediately press the Menu button on the digital receiver

Option 2

  • Power ON your television and Power ON your HD or HD/DVR digital receiver
  • Press the CBL button on the Charter remote
  • Press Power to turn off the digital receiver
  • Press Menu button and release. (Occasionally Menu must be pressed a 2nd or 3rd time)

When the User Settings sub menu displays, you can utilize the following buttons on your remote:

Navigate to TV TYPE. This setting will set the aspect ratio. The front panel display indicates the type you select. Options include:

  • 16:9 for wide screen TVs (default)
  • 4:3 LETTERBOX (4:3 LETTERBOX fits widescreen programming on the screen by placing black bars at the top and bottom)
  • 4:3 PAN/SCAN for standard TVs (4:3 PAN/SCAN fills the screen by cropping the left and right edges of widescreen programming)

Quick Menu

Quick Menu

The Quick Menu provides shortcuts to the key features you'll use most often.

It will appear over any video or guide screens when the Menu button on your remote is selected. The Quick Menu allows you to launch directly into Interactive Program Guide features without having to navigate through a series of menus.

You can press either the Left or Right button on the remote control to continuously move through the icons. To help you become familiar with the icons on the Quick Menu, the help text calls out the icon name in yellow and describes the function in white.

These icons appear in the Quick Menu. Highlight and select an icon with your remote, and you will immediately access the area indicated.

Upgrading TV Services

Depending on your currently subscribed Charter TV services, you can upgrade to Charter TV Silver and/or Charter TV Gold packages or add premium move channels (HBO/Cinemax, Showtime/TMC, Starz/Encore or EPIX) using your Digital Receiver and Charter remote control. When you attempt to tune to a channel that you are not subscribed to, you will be given the opportunity to upgrade your Charter TV services. Simply follow the onscreen prompts to learn about the service, read the terms and conditions and complete an order.

Note: To restrict the ability to upgrade through your digital receiver you can set up a purchase PIN. Click here for information on setting up a purchase PIN

  • When you attempt to tune to a channel that you are not subscribed to you will see the Upgrade Your TV Service screen. Select OK ok button to view available offers. Alternately, you can tune to channel 2495 to view all offers

  1. You will be shown a screen with offers available for you to upgrade to (Charter TV packages or premium movie channels depending on your current Charter TV services)

  1. Choose the option you wish to upgrade to and select Upgrade Now upgrade now to proceed

Note: Customers with a Purchase PIN setup on their digital receiver will be required to enter the PIN during the order process

  1. You will be taken to the Terms and Conditions screen. Select OK to complete your order. 
  2. A confirmation message appears when your order is complete. You will have immediate access to all channels and On Demand content contained in your new package or premium movie channel

Upgrading TV Services Error

If your order is unable to process you will be shown an error screen. The reasons you may see an error screen include:

  • Your account currently has a delinquent balance
  • Your Digital Receiver is incompatible with this type of upgrade
  • You currently have an open service order on your account
  • Charter is experiencing technical issues

Upgrade Error

If you receive an error while attempting to upgrade your TV services please try again later, chat or call Charter Customer Service.

HD Auto Tune

The default setting for HD Auto Tune is ON. To adjust the setting:

High Definition (HD) Auto Tune automatically tunes customers subscribing to Charter's TV Service to the available HD version of any channel they select, even if they select the Standard Definition (SD) channel number.

Enable/Disable HD Auto Tune

  1. Press the Menu button twice to access the Main Menu
  2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight Setup and press OK/SEL
  3. Highlight Guide Setup and press OK/SEL
  4. Highlight Tune for HDTV
  5. Use the left/right arrow buttons to toggle between Yes or No
  6. Press Exit to return to programming

Change HD recording to SD recording

When HD Auto Tune is enabled on a DVR, all scheduled recordings will record in HD, which uses more of your DVR storage capacity. After scheduling a recording from either an SD or HD channel, you can access the DVR menu and modify the recording to record in SD. You can also add an eSATA external hard drive to increase your DVR's storage capacity. Click here for more information

To change a scheduled recording from high definition to standard definition

  1. Press the Menu button, select DVR and press OK/SEL
  2. Select Future Recording and press OK/SEL
  3. Select the future recording that you would like to modify and press OK/SEL
  4. Select the Record icon and press OK/SEL
  5. Select Modify settings for this recording only and press OK/SEL
  6. Select Record In and use the left/right arrow buttons to toggle between High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition
  7. Press Exit to return to programming

Recording (DVR)

Record a Series

DVR capable digital receivers allow for Series Recordings. A Series Recording will record episodes of a title based on the options setup. Use the following steps to access Series Recording setup:

  1. Locate the title to be recorded using the Interactive Programming Guide.
  2. Press RECORD on the remote control twice, or press Info and select the Record Record Iconicon from the Program Information Screen.
  3. Select Set Up a Series Recording series recording iconicons to specify recording options.
  4. Select the Record Series with These Settings record icon icon to schedule the recording.

NOTE: Advanced recording options can be accessed by selecting the View All Settings view all settings icon icon while in the Series Recording options window.

Cancel or Modify a Series Recording

DVR capable digital receivers allow for Series Recordings. Once a Series Record has been established, users can cancel or modify the settings with the following steps:

  1. Press the My DVR button on the remote control.
  2. Use the arrow buttons on the remote to locate the desired DVR Recording.
  3. Press OK on the remote Control
  4. Select the X cancel icon icon to cancel the Series Recording.
    or
  5. Select the Modify Recording Settings view all settings icon icon to modify the current recording options for the selected title.
  6. Confirm by selecting the Record Record Iconicon.

Modify Series Recording List

Series Recordings setup on a DVR capable digital receiver are setup on a priority list. The first title selected for a Series Record is given priority slot 1; the second title setup is set to priority slot 2, etc. This list is used to make determination of which title is recorded in the instance of a conflict. To modify the Series Recording Priority List:

  1. Press the Menu button on the remote control.
  2. Select the DVR dvr icon icon from the quick menu, or DVR from the main menu.
  3. Select Series Priority.
  4. Use the arrow buttons on the remote control to locate the title you would like to be adjusted, in priority.
  5. Use the Page Up page up button or Page Down page down button button on the remote to move the title higher or lower in priority.
  6. Select the confirm icon icon to confirm the priority list.

DVR On/Off & Scheduled Recordings

Scheduled recording will occur in the background when the DVR is off. This is true even if both tuners are being used for recordings. DVR’s do not need to turn on to record.

Add Closed Captioning

The Closed Caption option turns closed captions off or on. This function has a default disabled setting. In order to modify this setting, you must access the On Screen Menu.

Standard Definition Digital Receiver:

  1. To access the On Screen Menu, you must power ON your television and power OFF the digital receiver.
  2. Press the Menu button to view the On Screen DisplayMenu. To navigate the menu, you can utilize the following buttons on either your remote or digital receiver.
  3. Press the Up and Down  buttons to reach the setting you wish to change.
  4. Press the Directional buttons to select an option for that setting.
  5. To exit the setting use the Up and Down buttons.
  6. Press the Power or Menu button to exit the menu and save your settings.

HD/HD DVR Digital Receiver:

  1. Press the Menu button twice to view the On Screen Menu.
  2. Use the Directional buttons to highlight Setup and press OK/Select Ok
  3. Use the Directional buttons to highlight Closed Captioning and press OK/Select Ok
  4. Use the left and right Directional buttons to turn closed captioning on or off.
  5. Press the EXIT button to exit the menu and return to programming.

Add and Access Favorites

The Favorites feature allows you to quickly access the channels you have designated as your Favorites.

Create up to five of your own unique Favorites Lists, which can be named with the on-screen keyboard.

Access stored Favorites Lists through the Favorites Setup menu. From there, you can rename the lists, or delete them.

To Set Up Your Favorites List

Select the Save icon on the Quick Menu (or select Setup from the Main Menu, then Favorites Setup).

Add Channels To or From Your Favorites List

  • Select the Favorites List you want to change.
  • Select the Save icon to make Favorites changes.

To add channels, highlight a channel and press OK/Select . The channel will then be designated as a Favorite.
To delete channels from your Favorites Lists; select a channel that is already set as a Favorite; then press the OK/Select or FAV  button to remove the Save  icon, which removes the channel as a Favorite.

To Access Your Favorites List

You can conveniently access the Favorites Lists by pressing the FAV button while watching TV.

Additionally, you can access the Favorites Lists from the Quick Menu by selecting the Save icon to bring up your Favorites Lists.
