Why do I have to have a box on every TV now?

  • As part of the transition to Charter Spectrum, your area will be transitioned to an all digital experience. This means Charter no longer offers analog only services and every TV requires a Charter issued Digital Receiver or CableCARD (CC) in order to view any channels.
  • All levels of TV service in All Digital areas, including Basic, require the use of Charter issued equipment.
  • Once within an area that is all digital you will need to connect a Digital Receiver to each television to continue viewing programming.
  • Customers with a Digital QAM tuner will not be able to continue to receive Basic TV channels without a Digital Receiver. A QAM tuner is a device present in some digital televisions and similar devices which enables direct reception of unencrypted digital cable channels.
  • Customers using a CableCARD device to enable delivery of Charter Digital services do NOT need a Digital Receiver to continue to receive their Basic and Expanded Basic TV channels.
  • Any TV that does not have a Digital Receiver or CableCARD by the time a Charter All Digital transition is complete, loses access to all TV channels.

If I have Charter WIFI will I still be getting 60 Mbps download speed?

  • Charter WiFi customers are provided a high-performance dual-band router capable of delivering at least 60 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and well over 100 Mbps on the 5 GHz band.
  • All WiFi signals weaken as you move further away from the router, and more so if there are obstructions between you and the router. Try running a speed test while you are relatively close to the router, with a clear line of sight to the device.
  • There are also a number of other environmental factors that can degrade your signal (i.e. neighboring networks, baby monitors, cordless phones, wireless speakers, etc). Try removing / moving away from these sources of interference.
  • Also, keep in mind that the client device on which you are running the speed test may not be capable of supporting 60 Mbps.
  • Click here to run a Charter Speed test.
  • Click here to learn more about environmental factors.
