Request Changes to Deceased Customers' Account

We know this is a difficult time for family and friends and as a result want to make the process as simple and easy as possible. Please understand that we must follow laws and processes to protect customer privacy and personal information.

In order to process an account ownership change or to close an account for a deceased Charter customer, please chat or call us at 1-888-438-2427.

Below is helpful information you should know when contacting us to make these changes:

A verified Authorized User already listed on the deceased customer's account can request the disconnection of services. Only an Authorized User may request the account ownership change or request a disconnection.

If there is no Authorized User listed on the account, we can access publicly available sources upon request to verify the account holder's death. Upon verification through these sources, Charter can disconnect services.

You can process the account change at a local Charter office by providing one of the following:

  • Death Certificate
  • Newspaper Notice
  • Letter from the Funeral Home
  • Letter from the Executor of the Estate
  • Other Related Notice
